The Kunal Patel San Francisco Open will be home to a field full of young American talent in 2018. Among them, 20-year-old Michael Mmoh will be looking to improve on his 2017 KPSF semi-final result with a win. Mmoh has had an impressive start to 2018 with a win over world No. 33 Mischa Zverev at the Brisbane International. Mmoh will have to compete with fellow American and top-seed Bjorn Fratangelo if he is to take away the title. Fratangelo has his own notable wins over top opponents, including a victory over Sam Querrey in the 2016 French Open and another against Gilles Simon in 2017.
Local tennis fans will be happy to see a familiar face when Mackenzie McDonald returns to the court in San Francisco. As a junior player, McDonald trained over the bridge in Berkeley and played college tennis for UCLA where he won the 2016 NCAA singles and doubles titles. Mackie is currently playing at the Australian Open where he faces a tough second-round opponent in world No. 3 Grigor Dimitrov.
